Three practical steps
- Establish the design basis, deliverable schedule and information needed from each discipline. Agree naming, revision and review arrangements before large volumes of information arrive.
- Review interfaces using the actual coordinated package. Record a precise location, source revision, technical question, responsible party and evidence needed to close each comment.
- Control design changes and releases. Confirm that affected documents have been updated and that construction receives the intended revision with unresolved restrictions clearly identified.

The design coordinator organizes the process. Qualified discipline designers and checkers retain technical responsibility; construction, procurement and operations contribute relevant interface and usability checks.

Illustrative case: a ventilation duct clashes with a cable route near a fire barrier. The team checks both systems and the barrier requirement, agrees a coordinated solution and tracks the affected drawing revisions.
A mistake to avoid
A clash-free model does not prove that design assumptions, calculations, specifications or operational requirements are correct.
