A situation you may recognize
A concrete pour is ready, but an embedded item differs from the approved drawing. A useful inspection record explains the location, evidence and decision route, rather than simply saying “not acceptable”.
Three practical steps
- Check the inspection basis and the correct workfront, lot or location. Confirm applicable drawings, specifications, inspection and test plans and prerequisite records.
- Record objective observations with measurements, photographs and source references where relevant. Distinguish a witnessed fact from an assumption and identify any work needing further assessment.
- Route findings to the authorized party and track the response through verification. Preserve the original observation and the evidence supporting closure or another disposition.
Who works together
Contractor supervisors organize execution and internal checks. Inspectors and client representatives act within their appointment; designers and specialist engineers resolve technical matters through the project route.
Illustrative example
Illustrative case: a delivered valve has a different pressure rating from the approved submittal. The receiving record identifies the unit and certificate, and the team holds it for authorized review before installation.
A mistake to avoid
An inspection signature has the meaning assigned by the project arrangements. Do not imply that it transfers all design or construction responsibility.
