Temporary Works Register

Control temporary works categories, design briefs, checks, permits, inspections, loading, alterations and dismantling.

How to use this template

This Excel template contains prepared working sheets and completion notes on a separate sheet. Enter your project data and review the completed workbook before use.

This editable workbook helps you organise project information. Check any included formulas, assumptions and results before use; it does not replace professional review.

The form prepares a separate brief; it does not fill the Word or Excel file.

How to use this template

When you need it

Open the register when temporary supports, platforms, access structures or other temporary works are identified. Maintain it through design, installation, use, alteration and removal, including changes introduced during construction.

What it helps you decide

The register connects each temporary item with its technical and operational evidence. It prevents design checking, permission to use and permission to remove from being treated as the same decision.

How to complete it

  1. Create an inventory from temporary works needs and permanent works interfaces. Define each Temporary works item with its Location and purpose clearly enough to prevent confusion.
  2. Link Design reference and Check reference to current controlled records. In Use and change, record actual installation inspections and Use authorization evidence when available.
  3. Identify each Removal dependency against permanent works readiness. Reconcile alterations with the design record and retain restrictions until the relevant authorized decision is documented.

Who prepares and reviews it

The appointed temporary works coordinator typically maintains it, using designer, checker and inspection inputs. Construction managers contribute use requirements; loading and removal decisions belong to the competent roles appointed under project procedures.

A mistake to avoid

Treating a checked temporary works drawing as permission to load the installed structure overlooks installation conditions and the separate authorization required by the adopted procedure.

Illustrative example

Illustrative example: temporary props support a transfer slab while upper floors are constructed. The register links the prop arrangement, design check and actual use authorization. A proposed early removal is recorded against its permanent works dependency so the appointed engineer can assess the evidence before a removal decision.
