How to use this template

When you need it

Maintain during each actual site shift to capture activities, events and handover matters chronologically. Use it across construction where several crews and linked records must be connected to a particular day and area.

What it helps you decide

The logbook provides a practical factual sequence for coordination and later review. It links deliveries, inspections and interruptions without replacing their controlled records or implying technical acceptance of completed work.

How to complete it

  1. Enter Time / area and Activity or event from actual observations. Identify Crew / contractor and distinguish observed resources from reported information or estimates.
  2. Reference delivery, visitor, inspection and incident records through Record reference. Describe interruptions factually without assigning unsupported blame, causation or percentage completion.
  3. Use Shift handover to identify unresolved matters and the receiving role. Record actual follow-up arrangements while retaining separate procedures for urgent incidents, permissions and technical decisions.

Who prepares and reviews it

The site supervisor or shift recorder prepares entries with trade foremen and records coordinators. The receiving supervisor reviews handover matters; specialist inspections, permits and formal instructions remain with their designated authorized roles.

A mistake to avoid

Using a routine activity entry as evidence that quantities were certified or work accepted gives the logbook a status its factual observations do not establish.

Illustrative example

Illustrative example: a shift records drainage installation, a delayed delivery and restricted access to one work area. Each event links to its relevant delivery or inspection record. The next supervisor uses the handover entry to coordinate follow-up without treating the daily log as approval of installed work.
