How to use this template

When you need it

Use this register when survey control points are transferred between teams or received for design and construction use, particularly where point identity, datum, physical condition, access, and independent verification need clear records.

What it helps you decide

It preserves the link between control-point data and the actual physical marks, helping surveyors detect disturbed or uncertain references before those references propagate incorrect coordinates or levels into design checks and setting out.

How to complete it

  1. Record Point ID, Type, Coordinates or schedule reference, and Elevation and datum using the supplied survey-control records without leaving the reference system implicit.
  2. Inspect Mark condition and Protection or access, linking Source reference to the relevant schedule or drawing and identifying points that cannot be reliably located.
  3. Complete Verified by, Verification date, and Status only for checks actually performed, keeping uncertain or damaged control points distinguishable from verified points available for use.

Who prepares and reviews it

The outgoing survey team usually supplies the records, and the receiving surveyor checks identity, condition, and reference information. Competent survey personnel verify usability, with acceptance responsibilities set by the project appointment and survey-control procedure.

A mistake to avoid

Copying supplied coordinates into a verified-status row without checking the physical mark can conceal disturbed control and spread a reference error across later construction activities.

Illustrative example

Illustrative example: a contractor receives control points for a retaining-wall package. The handover identifies one benchmark whose protective cover was damaged during earthworks. Its status remains unresolved while the receiving surveyor checks alternative references, preventing the damaged mark from being used unquestioningly for foundation levels.
