How to use this template

When you need it

Prepare the lookahead plan for the project's agreed near-term planning window using the current schedule and workfront conditions. Refresh it as constraints, delivery commitments and resource availability change during construction execution.

What it helps you decide

It converts the larger programme into credible near-term commitments. Supervisors can see which activities are executable, which need enabling actions and where coordination can remove obstacles before crews reach the workfront.

How to complete it

  1. Define the planning window and data date from the current approved schedule, then select activities and locations consistent with real predecessor status and available workfronts.
  2. Record planned start and finish, responsible roles and constraints, checking resource commitments, materials and information against current procurement and constraint records rather than assumed availability.
  3. Assign readiness actions and review commitments with owners, updating the plan as constraints change while preserving the distinction between near-term coordination and authorized baseline change.

Who prepares and reviews it

The planner coordinates supervisors, package engineers, procurement and resource owners. Construction management reviews commitments and constraints; actual work release and any baseline changes remain governed by the project and site procedures.

A mistake to avoid

Do not copy baseline dates into the lookahead without checking readiness; a task can remain scheduled while its materials, access or prerequisite work are unavailable.

Illustrative example: next week's cable installation depends on access clearance and delayed cable drums. The lookahead records both constraints and responsible actions.
