Feasibility Evidence and Assumption Register

Trace feasibility assumptions to evidence, decision sensitivity and a plan to resolve important gaps.

How to use this template

This Excel template contains prepared working sheets and completion notes on a separate sheet. Enter your project data and review the completed workbook before use.

This editable workbook helps you organise project information. Check any included formulas, assumptions and results before use; it does not replace professional review.

The form prepares a separate brief; it does not fill the Word or Excel file.

How to use this template

When you need it

Start when a feasibility study begins accumulating assumptions and source material. Update before option reviews and investment gates, particularly when older evidence or new findings may change a material conclusion.

What it helps you decide

The register reveals what the feasibility recommendation actually depends on. It directs verification effort toward assumptions capable of changing the decision and prevents repeated estimates from acquiring the appearance of established facts.

How to complete it

  1. Assign an Assumption ID and describe the Statement and boundary. Classify each item as fact, working assumption, estimate or unresolved question in Evidence class.
  2. Record Source / date and assess origin, age and access to underlying evidence. Link each entry to its Dependent decision and explain meaningful Sensitivity.
  3. Specify Validation action and Owner / review date before the next gate. Retain superseded entries with their replacement reference so changed conclusions remain explainable.

Who prepares and reviews it

The study coordinator maintains entries with technical, market and commercial assumption owners. A reviewer challenges reliability and decision sensitivity; the sponsor decides how unresolved gaps affect the next authorized gate.

A mistake to avoid

Citing the study itself as evidence for an assumption creates circular support and hides that the underlying capacity, cost or demand claim remains unverified.

Illustrative example

Illustrative example: a feasibility study assumes an existing substation can supply a new workshop. The register identifies the assumption's source and the cost estimate depending on it. Because a contrary provider response could change the concept, the study lead prioritizes capacity confirmation before recommending the option.
