How to use this template

When you need it

Prepare this plan when multiple disciplines, organizations, or design stages must deliver coordinated information, particularly where approvals, construction interfaces, and changing inputs could disrupt design quality or programme commitments.

What it helps you decide

It explains how design work will be organized, coordinated, reviewed, issued, and changed, allowing participants to manage dependencies and avoid treating isolated discipline completion as readiness for construction or acceptance.

How to complete it

  1. Define Scope, stages and delivery strategy, then assign Roles and responsibilities for inputs, coordination, verification, client decisions, and controlled information issue.
  2. Connect Inputs, deliverables and programme to actual design dependencies, and describe Coordination and interface control for discipline boundaries and construction information needs.
  3. Set Review, verification and change control arrangements, describe Issue, acceptance and records, and track Design risks and outstanding actions through relevant reviews.

Who prepares and reviews it

The design manager usually leads preparation with discipline leads, planners, document control, construction, and client reviewers. Governance establishes who verifies technical work, accepts deliverables, and authorizes changes or issue statuses.

A mistake to avoid

Treating document issue dates as the whole design programme overlooks input dependencies, review periods, interdisciplinary checks, and decisions that determine whether outputs are usable.

Illustrative example

Illustrative example: a process building needs civil, structural, piping, and electrical designs from separate firms. The plan aligns equipment-load inputs with foundation release dates and defines coordination reviews. When vendor loads arrive late, the design manager records the dependency and adjusts the affected release sequence.
